ASA 6th edition style is published by the American Sociological Association and is used primarily in sociology and related social sciences. This citation generator follows the official ASA Style Guide (6th edition).
ASA references follow a specific format: Last name, First name. Year. "Article Title." Journal Name Volume(Issue):Page-Range. For books: Last name, First name. Year. Book Title. Edition. City: Publisher. Authors are listed with full first names (not initials). Use title case and quotation marks for article titles. Italicize journal and book titles. The reference list is alphabetized by author's last name, then by year for multiple works by the same author.
ASA uses author-date parenthetical citations: (Smith 2024) or Smith (2024). For two authors, include both names: (Smith and Doe 2024). For three or more authors, use 'et al.' after the first author: (Smith et al. 2024). Include page numbers after a colon for direct quotes: (Smith 2024:45). For multiple works by the same author in the same year, add lowercase letters: (Smith 2024a, 2024b).
